Right now there are 12 guys who are for sure gone after this year: O'Korn, Hill, Poggi, Wangler, Isaac, Hewlett, Ways, Cole, Kugler, Hurst, McCray, and Harris. An additional open scholarship makes 13, with the potential for 14 with Jordan Glasgow as a former WO.
There are also a number of borderline guys who may or may not get 5th years. These include JBB, Bunting, Marshall, Furbush and Watson. With Newsome's medical situation, it's unlikely that both he and JBB will be on the roster next year. So 14 open spots. We can expect a couple pieces of attrition during the offseason as well, which makes 16 or 17.
The amount of blue chip 2019 kids who are interested in Michigan is MUCH greater than in the 2018 class. We already have 3 guys rated higher than our highest composite recruit in 2018. I think it would be smart to only take 2 or 3 more kids (MM, a defensive tackle, maybe a safety,) invite most of those borderline guys back to provide senior leadership to a potential championship team, and save those schollies for 2019.
