With all the commotion about Poole and Iggy leaving early, I wanted to see what the typical tenure at Michigan was for Beilein players. Specifically, I wanted to see how many players stayed with the program for 4 years (that of course doesn't mean they played 4 years - they could have redshirted). I thought it would be interesting to see how many lasted 4 years in the face of the NBA, transfers, medical issues, etc.
Michigan recruited the 44 scholarship players below during the Beilein era. Six of those players are still on the team and have not yet exhausted their eligibility (Livers, Brooks, Castleton, Nunez, Johns, Dejulius). Three others are still on the team but have entered their fourth year of eligibility (Simpson, Teske, and Davis, who redshirted so he can play a 5th year). Subtracting out the six players still with eligibility, that means we are looking at 38 players.
A summary:
2008 2 Lucas-Perry - transfer to U of D
2008 0 Benzing - did not qualify

A summary:
- 17 players (45%) stayed at least 4 years (Morgan the only one who stayed 5)
- 4 players (11%) stayed 3 years. All 4 went to the NBA (Hardaway, Wilson, Wagner, Matthews)
- 13 players (34%) stayed 2 years. Of the 13, 6 went to the NBA early, 6 transferred, and one ended his career due to medical issues.
- 2 players (5%) stayed 1 year. Iggy went to the NBA, Brundidge transferred.
- 2 players (5%) never played: Benzing did not qualify and Hatch had medical issues.
- 3 of the 38 players transferred into the program. Lucas-Perry stayed 2.5 years (he left Arizona after just one semester) then transferred out. Duncan Robinson played 4 years. Charles Matthews was at Michigan 3 years. I'd say that's an excellent ROI for transfers into the program.
