Excited to see this years recruiting class is so strong. But over the last 5 classes, getting talent has really not been an issue. We seem to be recruiting at a high level by rankings. We have had classes ranked 4,11,10,24 and now #11 over the last 5 years. So why have the results been so poor on the field? Are we recruiting the wrong players? Are we not allocating enough emphasis to areas of need such as CB and DL? Is our staff not using schemes that maximize the skills that our players possess? Are we not developing our players? Do we have deficiencies in strength and conditioning?
Ultimately, some or all of these problems must be happening and some or all of these issues are the responsibility of our head coach. The head coach should be accountable in the 'meritocracy' world he claims to operate with. I know he is approaching things with 'an enthusiasm unknown to mankind', but he ultimately is only judged by wins and losses.
Great class, super excited about JJ at QB and the talent in this 2021 class... but I think past results suggest that Harbaugh may not be able put these talented players in position to win. I hope he proves me wrong, but the last several years have been really quite a let down.
I remain hopeful of improvement, but wishing for success rather than enjoying it has been disappointing to say the least.
