This still remains my favorite game and play of all time. I was a senior. The previous three years had been huge matchups between us and the ND and we had lost all three in heartbreaking fashion. In 88, we lost when Mike Gillette's last second field goal missed by about a foot. In 89, we lost when Rocket Ismail returned two kickoffs for TD's. In 90, Mirer led a fourth quarter comeback in South Bend against a Michigan team breaking in a still relatively inexperienced Elvis Grbac. The 91 game was cathartic. When Grbac threw the pass, it looked like he overthrew it (and perhaps out of the end zone). But Desmond somehow came down with it.
