*** We haven't talked a lot about 2022 recruiting since signing day is right around the corner. Another reason is the fact that the staff just isn't doing a lot with underclassmen right now. With a terrible season and rumors floating around about Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, the Wolverines are starting to get a little behind on 2022 recruits. With that said, the staff is making sure that they remain in daily (or at least every couple of days) contact with their top two priorities — five-star cornerbacks Will Johnson and Domani Jackson.

*** Will is visiting Ohio State this weekend. The Buckeyes have done a tremendous job of recruiting him and are the biggest threat to Michigan at this time. The same goes for Domani, who is sure to make it there soon. Obviously, Will's father played at Michigan, but they are taking an open approach with recruiting and know that Ohio State has a lot to offer both from a winning and development standpoint. On the flip side of the coin, Domani's father grew up a Michigan fan, but there is plenty of Ohio State influence in his family, and his mother is very high on the Buckeyes. Despite the issues in Ann Arbor, both five-stars remain high on U-M, but the Wolverines keep stabbing themselves in the heart with everything going on.

*** The 2022 class seems pretty neutral about everything. Rivals250 linebacker Tyler Martin remains fully locked in with Michigan and has continued to recruit both Jackson and Johnson. Rivals250 defensive tackle Alex VanSumeren is happy with his pledge, but as he's stated on a number of occasions, he wants to see schools like Alabama and Penn State after the dead period. Three-star tight end Marlin Klein is pretty quiet, but he's given no indication that he's looking around right now.

*** Rivals250 Kettering (Ohio) Alter defensive tackle Derrick Shepard committed to Cincinnati yesterday. Cincy is rolling on the field, and it's close to home. He really liked Michigan and wanted to visit, but the ongoing situation didn't help. Rivals100 Martin (Tenn.) Westview quarterback Ty Simpson did not name Michigan in his Top 10. Harbaugh got on the phone with him throughout the dead period, but again, the situation at Michigan didn't help. I said Rivals100 Lewisville (Texas) High wide receiver Armani Winfield was a realistic land out of the Lone Star State. He's not afraid to leave home and is coached by ex-Wolverine David Underwood. However, I put in a FutureCast for him to land at Ohio State this weekend.
