In an earlier post I analogized the current team to 1988, and someone pointed out that 1985 might be a better comparison. There is something to consider there. Bo played a very conservative offense that led to a 12-10 loss to Iowa and a 3-3 (IIRC) tie with Illinois. I recall reading in the Daily after that tie that film showed Kolesar open deep constantly. In the next four games they began going downfield to Kolesar and Kattus and hung 40+ points on everyone, and then 27 each on OSU and Nebraska. The 75-yd shot to Kolesar in the OSU game was legend. On Saturday I was sitting in that rain-soaked concrete disaster watching single coverage on Collins and DPJ all game, and literally thought, immediately before the throw to DPJ, that they had to start taking deep shots. I suspect they will be doing it more regularly.
