2017 Opponent Offenses

One of the things you have to look at in regards to our 2017 defense is how good are the offenses that they'll face. Here are the 2016 Total offense rankings for our 2017 opponents:

31 - Ohio State
36 - Air Force
49 - Penn State
56 - Indiana
75 - Michigan State
80 - Purdue
89 - Wisconsin
95 - Maryland
99 - Cincinnati
107 - Minnesota
116 - Florida
128 - Rutgers

I look for Ohio State, Purdue, and Minnesota to trend up due to new offensive philosophies. Indiana and Cincinnati may trend down due to bringing on defensive oriented coaches.

If you want to know where the other 2016 playoff and major bowl teams ranked:
2 - Oklahoma
12- Clemson
19 - Western Michigan
20 - Southern California
25 - Florida State
32 - Washington
34 - Alabama
43 - Auburn

I'll let everyone else debate the numbers but there is only 1 offense that I'd be concerned with in the upcoming season. We could have a worse defense this year but I'm not sure we'll know the difference given how crappy these offenses are that they face. Seems like a 2006 type year in which we dominate bad offenses all year and then have a shootout against the Buckeyes.
