Here's my 2 cents after watching the game 3 times.
Center and guards should grade out in the high 80's low 90's. They had decent push, picked up some cross games and had only one noticeable missed assignment that led to a TFL
Tackles will grade out at 85 on one side and 70 on the other side. Work to be done but those were big strong guys Florida had up against them.
Tight ends ( we played a ton of them) should score in the mid to high 80's Down blocking was strong in general, good routes. They will cause late nights for DC's in the future.
WR's played OK, this is a position that is high reward and they have to make plays when given the chance. There were several balls that should have been caught and two that should not have been spun afterwards ( bonehead, from someone who should have learned actions are watched by everyone). That cost momentum and then we got hit with a turnover.
QB play was adequate, some good recognition, some good throws and one really bad decision. He recognized the 8 man front and checked to the wheel but unfortunately tossed the ball out of bounds.
Running backs were good, good vision, good pass protection. 200 plus rushing yards against these guys gets it done.
Defense , WOW. If you take away three first downs on the first drive, two at the end of the game and two ( one by a QB scramble and one by a QB back shoulder throw up. They only have two first downs the rest of the game. Stout and fast. Looking toward the future.
Kicking game was good except the blocked punt. Simply can't have that.
I watched 12 games over the last few days and must say the officiating is at an all time low. Missed calls, wrong calls, targeting, missed targeting. These poor guys either have no leadership with defined rules or they are just plain bad. The game is being hurt by incompetent officials.
Finally, a word about football. It is an emotional sport played by guys at the college level that are 18,19, 20 years old. All of them strive for perfection. Everyone tries for perfection. No one has ever been perfect and when you attempt that with 22 different personalities certain unwanted things happen. It what makes the game great.
I get upset and yell at the TV probably more than most, but what always comes back is the realization that I was 19 once, trying my hardest, and trying to improve. These guys deserve my respect and support over that effort. They are just kids playing a rough, demanding sport that gives little leeway for fault. I'm very proud that they are our guys, Michigan.
