OT St Patrick's Day Music Galway Girl Playlist and Video

Here is a playlist to drink Green Beer to. Like many of my playlists; it's loongg* ; 4+hours.
Maybe only listen to the first 20+ songs; about an hour. That part is a hybrid of pop and traditional and was my motivation
behind making this. The last 3 hrs is more traditional. Music you might hear in the pubs.
Features several (there are many to choose from) versions of the song "Galway Girl". Lasts about 15 mins..
If you get your fill of "Galway Girl" skip ahead.

One of the best "Irish songs" was written by one of my favorites from Texas; Steve Earle.
His song "Galway Girl" has become an international sensation. Becoming "an ole Irish Classic".
With Steve Earles Texas roots it's not hard to imagine this being a Cajun Zydeco song. The mix between traditional Irish and French stirred up in the Gumbo pot of Louisiana. All the way back to Ireland.

A cover version of the song by Mundy and Sharon Shannon reached number one and became the most downloaded song of 2008 in Ireland; it has gone on to become the eighth highest selling single in Irish chart history. The song has been the subject of numerous covers and live interpretations.
What is the story behind the Galway Girl?
Who was the Galway Girl song about? The song was inspired by a real woman that Earle met in Galway in 1998, when he was performing at the Galway Arts Festival. Her name was Joyce Redmond, and she was a local artist and dancer. Earle was married at the time, but he was captivated by Redmond's beauty and charm (GRG- Earle has been married seven times, including twice to the same woman. HA)

What does Galway Girl mean in slang?
Galway is a place in western Ireland. A girl from here is a Galway girl ;) According to urban dictionary, she's a girl with black hair and blue eyes. Made famous by Steve Earle in his song Galway Girl, which is about such a girl.

The City of Galway has grown an annual festival celebrating "Galway Girl".

Please take 5 mins and play this video. It will put you in the mood.

I can feel my wee bit ( I know; that's Scottish) of Irish Blood today; and it feels good. Celebrate. grg

The biggest ever street performance of Steve Earle's "Galway Girl" took place on June 11th, 2016 in Galway, Ireland. A record breaking number of over 15 000 people came along to take part in the performance. Sharon Shannon, Mundy, We Banjo 3, Amazing Apples, Roisin Seoighe, Lackagh Comhaltas, Galway Rose Rosie Burke and thousands of other artists and supporters were among them.

Insider Bryce Underwood hype

It's early, and we expect the Bryce Underwood hype train to be loud this offseason.

That said, I spoke to four different types of sources in the last few days, and the theme was consistent. This includes a current player on defense who I would consider one of the best on the team, a former player who played wide receiver, a current staff member (not a position coach), and someone who is connected to the program via a third party.

Bryce is him. All of them have raved about his stature, the way he carries himself, the aura and leadership that already surrounds him, and his work ethic. On the field, the current player said they have done some 7-on-7 work and Underwood is already making throws he's never seen a QB at Michigan make before. This player played against McCarthy for multiple seasons. The team, the players, are blown away and drawn to him. Coaches are most impressed by his work ethic and is ability to consume information and implement it quickly.

My guess is that the Bryce hype will be at an all-time high coming out of the spring game. WE HAVE A LONG WAY to go, but if you asked me who is starting day 1 today, it's Bryce. Maybe we will hear more of it when spring camp gets into full swing, but you'd expect a lot of "there is going to be a competition, and he's going to have to earn it" talk. FWIW, the same sources said a lot of good things about Jadyn Davis. To the point, it feels like there is more of a battle between Davis and Keene for backup than between Keene and Underwood.

Again, this is all FYI, and you can consume it however you like. There are a lot of practices and a lot of work to be done before Bryce is named the starter. But I had to share what I was hearing because of how consistent the praise for him is across multiple types of sources.

A Banner Day...

OK, I'm done allowing the corrupt NCAA to rain on our day. I want to ramble a bit about the incredible accomplishment of this team.

First, for some perspective, the last time each Big Ten team won the Big Ten tournament.

Illinois, 2024
Purdue, 2023
Iowa, 2022
Michigan State, 2019
Wisconsin, 2015
Ohio State, 2013
Indiana, Minnesota, Northwestern, Penn State, Maryland, Nebraska, Rutgers, UCLA, USC, Oregon, Washington NEVER!!!!!

Our opponent today, despite tons of basketball success hasn't won what we won today in 10 years. MSU hasn't done it in six years. OSU...12 years. Over half the Big Ten has never done it, including blue blood Indiana.

To return one starter and one bench player from a 3-17 last place Big Ten team and finish second in the conference across 20 games and win the Big Ten tournament is nothing short of remarkable. Historic even.

And four days ago this accomplishment seemed absurdly unlikely as the team was completely reeling.

Great coaches respond, and in addition to this being the greatest program turnaround job we've seen from a Michigan coach, this weekends tournament was one of the best responses we've ever seen.

This team just wins. Its cliche, but I never remember a team that simply found ways to win games despite various clear faults like this one. The resilience has been legendary and I'll think about it every time I look at this banner.

Consider the likelihood of each event that was required in order to win our three BTT games:

1. 25-6 assist to turnover ration on Friday. Huh? That came out of nowhere.
2. 47-18 rebounding edge. Uh.....what?
3. Cason bails out a struggling offense and keeps us in position to make a late run.

They just win, in a variety ways and now will have some fabric that will represent their greatness forever.

Nice job coach and nice job boys!!!!
