Current state of the Athletic Dept.

Surprising that Ono's name has been conspicuously absent tells me he is happy with Warde's involvement with how he's doing his job. Dusty May's hiring, growing NIL programs, Sherone's building of recruiting buildup and recruiting class, filling the basketball arena, etc. I'm sure Ono has done work behind the scenes but chooses no to be in the limelight. If Ono is happy, I'm happy.

If someone had offered me a choice how our football program ended up this year this season would be choice #1. Others have posted what our season could have ended like, but with the team we had at the time, I see no way possible to get into the playoffs let alone win it all. Think Sherrone firing Campbell was tough for him to do but 100% the right thing to do. We are on an upward path and who know what our ceiling is in 25 & 26.

Football On the OC search…

Been doing some asking the last few days and people are doing a very good job of not spilling the beans in terms of names or who it’s going to be.

Sherrone is obviously spearheading this thing and keeping things quiet. The name is going to leak out eventually, though, it has to. It’s inevitable.

As for what we’re hearing, it wouldn’t be a surprise by this time next week we have a good idea of where this one is going to go, or even have a guy announced.

We’ve heard a variety of things and trying to sift through fact or fiction. The main thing is that there’s one faction saying that they want to go younger in terms of candidates and another saying that age isn’t really going to be a factor. I think the truth is somewhere in the middle.

The obvious QB development aspect is part of it, too. My belief is that they want someone who can work with the QBs but I don’t get the sense they’re married to this idea. The reason I say that is because Brennan Marion’s name was thrown around and I know he has some supporters in various circles at Michigan but he’s a WR guy so the fit is awkward.

With Odom going to Purdue, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Marion take over UNLV.

As for other names, Joe Craddock’s name is still persisting. Dan Mullen’s name has faded after being brought up initially. Jason Candle is still out there.

A new name being brought up in circles I speak to is Chip Lindsey, OC/QB coach at UNC. The Tarheels are obviously looking for a new head coach so it’s unknown if he would even be retained on the current staff.

Detroit Lions Pass Game Coordinator Tanner Engstrand is another that has been brought up. He’s a former Michigan analyst with overlap with Moore, so the connection makes sense. However, after spending multiple seasons with the Lions, he could very well get the look for their OC position if Ben Johnson gets a head coach job.

All of this to say that we’re not going to put our eggs in one basket yet and might not until word leaks out about a guy that Sherrone has hired.

Everyone is doing a good job being tight-lipped as Sherrone is being intentional and meticulous with this thing knowing that he doesn’t have much time to waste here.

We’ll just have to see how things develop this week but I get the sense we’ll start to see some movement, which doesn’t mean movement hasn’t already happened.

Will have more when I get it.

Insider Still digging on OC…

No names have emerged YET from the initial we’ve heard however there are folks who are adamant that Michigan wants to go younger with the OC pick and who has a history of QB development.

Who checks those boxes? Not sure currently.

I don’t get the sense Jason Candle will go further than the initial discussion.

Will do more digging.

2024 Big 10 Football Schedule analysis

With there being no divisions in the Big 10 conference now, the easiest conference schedules will help teams get to the conference championship game. I’ve been curious about how things shook out this year, so I did some analysis. Here are some initial things that jumped out to me:
- Indiana played 7 of the bottom 8 teams.
- Iowa also played 7 of the bottom 8 teams.
- Iowa only played 1 team in the top 6.
- Michigan played 4 of the top 5 teams (only team in the top 14 of the standings to do so), with 3 of the 4 being on the road.
- Michigan played 7 of the top 11 teams.
- Osu is the only team in the top 10 to play the top 3 teams.
- UCLA is the only team to not play an opponent lower than 12.
- Purdue is the only team to play the top 5 teams (their other 4 games were against teams 12-16).
- MSU played 7 of the top 9 teams, and also played the worst 2.
- USC played 1 team in the top 6.
