So I called the last two OSU games before they happened. & back in 2021 I was one of the first to say OSU 5* guys don't hit anybody. They run routes

And throw passes. And said they were in big trouble before the 2021 game. I predicted a three year run of Michigan wins. This is the third year, and until the Harbaugh suspension, I felt the most confident about this year. Not so much anymore. A lot of my prediction comes from sports psychology, having competed in the Big 10 for Michigan. As the week goes on when I get time, I want to talk about where I think the psychology is and where the pressure is. But first I want to just take in what we talked about before the game last year.

People were picking OSU because they still believed recruiting rankings over their eyes, or maybe they were not watching the games critically. And lamented that "this is at OSU, we never win there! Plus Blake is out!" I would have picked UM in this game by double digits again, but this suspension....makes for a very unlevel playing field in this game. Look for more on this later this week.

But this is what I said last year.

Last year (2021) on the night before the game, I wrote this long skreed. Before UM won. I basically talked about all of the things that people have been talking about since the 2021 game. Toughness, competitive greatness, that "It's Michigan showing up on Saturday, not Rutgers." That Michigan is talented and will be the hardest thing OSU has seen and they will struggle to respond to that. Etc, Etc. And I almost didn't hit send/post because I was like "these people are going to think I'm crazy."

But the truth is, this is the same game as last year. Michigan is better on the lines. Michigan will run the ball. Blake is going to play...that's my gut talking. I have no inside info. But that hit was like on his knee funny bone. If that's true, he'll play.

As I said before Illinois, conditions have not significantly changed. Ohio is going to try to throw for 50 points and won't be able to do it. They are a one trick pony, and paper tiger. The dudes who are lining up tomorrow on defense for OSU are some of the same dudes who we smashed last year and our line is better this year. Ohio State is a "style points for the committee" team that is great at style points for the committee, but isn't built for Michigan.

What I know personally is that, ballers live for this moment. And only when placed in a conference championship setting can they "arrive to greatness." By the way these teams are built, the call to greatness favors Michigan's blueprint. And their players being the ones to emerge. If whe have a QB who is a "gamer" then he will show out tomorrow.

I will die on one hill. Ohio State won't score more than 28 points on Michigan. I don't know how Michigan will score more than 28 with these injuries, but I just believe they will. Ohio State in the 20s for the Michigan win. The Ohio State that you see and fear....wasn't lining up against Michigan. What you saw versus IU or Maryland and fear....that won't happen against Michigan's talent. Their punter and kicker will be busier than he's been all year.

Delving into Ohio state's offensive performance

Now granted you can manipulate stats in a lot of ways but I want to take a look at something.
Ohio State has played five road games this year. Let's look at their average scoring in these games.

At Indiana 23
At Notre Dame 17
At Purdue 41
At Wisconsin 24
At Rutgers 35.

Average these five games out and you get 28 points per game. Replace Purdue with Penn State (to get a gauge on how they handle adversity/ a good opponent), and you get an average of 23.8 points per game... Because Ohio State only scored 20 on Penn State. That's five games. Their worst five performances. Almost half of their season output. Not very impressive if you ask me . Let's look at their best scoring performances

Youngstown State 35
Western Kentucky 63
Maryland 37
Purdue 41
Michigan State 38
Minnesota 37

The average points per game here is 251 points divided by six games. And voila Ohio State averaged 41.8 points per game against these opponents. Now, I don't want to get everyone's hopes up that we shut this team out because they are hitting their stride.

They have players. They can score and they could win. But when you break them down offensively against their best opponents (best defenses/performances) their offense is about as scary as a baby kitten nursing warm milk from a bottle, or at least somewhere between said kitten and a terrifying old elephant that's really sick and moves very slow. Like family Guy cut away gag slow. Picture the elephant "I'm worthless without my nasal spray" (stereotypical old guy voice)

In short, I do believe we can slow these guys down as good or better than we did Maryland especially at home. MHJ/EE is always a threat and Trayveon Henderson gives this team some teeth to their run game. Pressure Henderson contain the run. Go home with the W. Go Blue!

Insider Intel: Early returns on JJ McCarthy

Did some asking around on JJ McCarthy, the early returns suggest that he isn’t dealing with anything serious coming out of the weekend.

While not serious, it’s just going to be something he will deal with for now. I get the sense he’ll see plenty of treatment and rest this week.

Unfortunate, no doubt, but the fact that he’s not dealing with anything serious is good news.

Small favor if you are so inclined

My sister has her first book out available for preorder on Amazon Kindle. She's a big Michigan fan living in Colorado (came into town last week for Purdue game) and her husband actually programmed the graphics for the scoreboards at the stadium in m, Crisler and Yost.

Anyhow, if you are so inclined check it out and decide if you want to preorder. I'm very proud of her and want it to do well

A story just broke stating that

Day's brother's PI firm may actually associated with another PI firm, both based in New Hampshire.

Earlier the other PI firm was reported to have set up a mail box at a mail box store listing the mail box as a suite.

More continues to be exposed to the illegal obtaining of evidence by OSU.

Imagine that, committing a felony to get information to find anything on Michigan because Ryan Day knows he will lose to a Harbaugh coached Michigan.

If this is in fact true, Day and OSU is in a world of schlitz.

Recruiting Big recruiting weekend

I believe it was asked by someone a few days ago if Saturday's game still planned on being Michigan's biggest recruiting weekend of the season in terms of the volume of prospects hosted and the number of high level recruits who will be in attendance.

The answer to that question is yes, as Josh and I are working on a running visitors list today and will add names to it throughout the week.

Recruiting Michigan LB commit Cole Sullivan reacts to firing of coach Chris Partridge

"He's (coach Partridge) definitely one of the biggest reasons why I committed to Michigan."

Michigan LB commit Cole Sullivan reacts to the firing of former Wolverines' LB coach Chris Partridge, who was relieved of his duties last Friday for impeding an ongoing NCAA investigation:

This Week

Is the first week that the team will at least have consistency from Sunday - Saturday. Two weeks ago Jim got suspended the day before me the game. Last week, they accepted the suspension 2 days before the game, and fired a coach the next day.

While it is certainly not ideal to have Jim “benched” this week, there will at least be no distractions coming (praise lord that’s true). The team will have one week of normalcy (new normal, that is) in preparation. Hopefully that keeps them locked in and we see a better level of execution than we have the last 2 weeks.

My only concern is the play calling. Moore seems distracted, and rightfully so, and as a result, has called a fairly bland game for two weeks straight. It’s almost like he isn’t able to 100% dial into the play calling, so he goes default mode. We will need more than that this week.

I’m hoping they recognize it internally and come up with a plan. Give some gameday play calling duties to someone else and let Moore be gatekeeper, or let someone else make the small HC decisions and let him stay locked in on the game flow.

I love the guy and I hope he is here for years to come. Hell, I hope they name him HC in waiting. I think he’s got a bright future and I don’t think you can judge him as a HC with the current circumstances. But I do think he needs less distractions on gameday.

First off Michigan is going to MollyWhop Ohio State this year. In fact I think OSU will lose to

PSU.

I've call the last two games and while I didn't specifically say "Michigan is going to blow OSU out" in 2021, I did actually say after OSU scored 49 points in the first half against MSU the week before...that "OSU is in big trouble against Michigan."

I will say again what I recognized back in 2021 and it hasn't changed. Ryan Day is a fraud and a poor leader. He's a front runner. He cared about scoring 77 on his in state opponent Toledo last year. His teams are rarely battle tested based on how he coaches. This year is actually a bit better for them. Meaning his defense can't just go into a game like "Our offense is going to get 50 so if we give up 25 it's no thang." The defense has actually had to play closer games this year.

But Day's thing about being tough against ND? You don't need to say you're tough if you are. Ohio State still doesn't run it and doesn't try to. They still can't run in third and short and get first downs. They are the same team as the last two years with a far worse QB. They are going to lose to PSU and Michigan is going to beat the S out of them this year.

(PS: Lets see if a not very smart person picks OSU to win again because they recruit more 5 stars, lol. Some people can't fathom the concept of punching up over your weight class. And at this point, Michigan isn't doing that vs. OSU anymore).
