Ah, the power of Jim Harbaugh.

The Michigan coach stirs up strong feelings without saying a word.

A day after HBO's Real Sports piece on Harbaugh was released to reporters, complete with heavy criticism from San Francisco 49ers lineman Alex Boone, a former 49er jumped to Harbaugh's defense.

Cornerback Chris Culliver, now with the Washington Redskins, saw the stories that transcribed Boone's comments on the HBO piece that went after Harbaugh, saying the coach wore out his welcome and essentially got fired from San Francisco because he couldn't work with management and was too set in his ways.

"He does a great job of giving you that spark, that initial boom," Boone said. "But after awhile you just want to kick his ass…He just keeps pushing you. You're like dude, we got over the mountain, stop. Let go. He kind of wore out his welcome. He pushed guys too far, he demanded too much, he wanted too much, expected too much, we've got to go out and do this… you'd be like, this guys might be clinically insane. He's crazy."

Culliver responded on Instagram today, starting with a crying tears of laughter emoji, pointing to Harbaugh's record with the 49ers, taking them at least to the NFC title game in three of his four seasons.

While Harbaugh's only tweet of the day was praising U-M donor Al Glick, others close to Harbaugh noticed the interaction.

Culliver's tweet was retweeted by U-M assistant (and Jim Harbaugh's son) Jay Harbaugh.

The Boone connection is interesting on a few levels. As most of the Bay Area papers pointed out, Boone was one of Jim Harbaugh's staunchest supporters while playing for him back in September.

Though it may be coincidence that Boone is a former Ohio State player, it's an interesting stance to take against Harbaugh, given that just this offseason Boone helped Harbaugh hire his director of operations, then the coach at Boone's alma mater, Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward.

He even told cleveland.com in that interview a month ago that he was fond of Harbaugh and will support him personally, except during The Game.

"I hope Jim coaches a great game," Boone said in that story. "I hope Ohio State wins. And I don't want Jim Harbaugh or Rick Finotti to get hurt."
