Our 2012 and 2013 recruiting classes had lots of players and I believe were ranked top 10. Now I do not know how much recruiting rankings really mater, but after the 2012 and 2013 classes which were ranked in the top 10, our 2014 class dropped off and was a lo smaller in quantity and dropped into the 20s as of ranking.
Now in the 2017, the 2012 class will be all gone baring any 6th year seniors. And the 2013 would all be gone except for players who were red shirted.
So if the 2013 class has lots of potential unused talent, do you think it is essential we red shirt much of it to ensure we protect home field against OSU and MSU in 2017? Because our 2-014 class was much smaller and I believe even ranked below MSU's although much of that had to do with quantity.
Now I am not saying we will not win against MSU and OSU on our home field in 2017 regardless, but if we somehow cannot beat either one in 2015 at home nor 2016 on the road, we have to beat both at home in 2017. Yes you can win with a sophomores (2016 class), but still just to be sure, we may need a good body count, especially if there are not good players form the 2014 class. Well there is Peppers, but is there anyone else?
